Our Pastors

The Rector

The Revd Dr Thomas Renz came to England from Germany in 1993 to pursue doctoral studies and taught in the areas of Old Testament and Hebrew at Oak Hill Theological College in Southgate from 1997 until 2009 before entering parish ministry. He served as a curate at St Michael’s Highgate and arrived in Monken Hadley in May 2012. His wife is a Modern Foreign Languages Teacher at St Albans School. They have two teenage children. The Curate
Adele Burgess joined us in June 2016. She came to London from Scotland and was an active member of Christ Church Cockfosters for many years before her ordination.

Pastoral Team - Baptism Support Group

The Baptism Support Group (BSG) is led by co-ordinator Debbie Coles, and has about half a dozen members. Their ministry has a public face in church during baptism when they hand over the baptismal candle and read the Commission, but the member of the team assigned as the 'pastoral link' to the baptism will already have carried out at least one pastoral visit before the baptism has taken place, and will visit the family again after the baptism, to ensure that a strong link is made with the wider church family.
Pastoral Team - Lay Eucharistic Ministers

The Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEM) are a team of volunteers each of whom is commissioned by the Bishop to carry out their ministry. They assist with the distribution of Communion in church, and also take the 'reserved sacrament' (parts of the consecrated elements of bread and wine, specially kept in church for this purpose) to members of the church who are sick or housebound, thus enabling them (in their own homes) to join in and be part of the church's celebration of the Holy Communion - the Eucharist.
Pastoral Team - Kingsdowne Pastoral Link

This small team currently consists only of the Rector and one other person, who is the key Kingsdowne Pastoral Link. Kingsdowne is a large residential home within our parish (see "Other Ministries" in the main menu at the left of this page for more details). We have a congregation at Kingsdowne, and the Eucharist is celebrated there every month. The key Kingsdowne Pastoral Link assists with this service and also visits the home at other times week by week to maintain a constant pastoral ministry to the home.
