Keep in touch with news from the parish
If you have never been to church, or not for a long time, this page is for you.
When to come
The main service is on Sunday at 10.30 and lasts about an hour. It is Holy Communion in modern language, with hymns, a choir and the organ, and there is coffee afterwards. At 6.30 on Sunday evening there is a quieter service of Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer, which lasts about forty five minutes.
Finding us
The church stands on Hadley Green Road, at the top of Barnet Hill beside Hadley Common, postcode EN5 5PZ. You can park on the Common next to the church. High Barnet station on the Northern line is about a mile away, up the hill.
What happens
Someone will hand you a service booklet at the door, and everything you need is printed in it. Sit anywhere you like. Nobody will ask you to stand up, say anything or come to the front, and you can join in as much or as little as you want. When people go up for communion you are welcome to come forward, to receive or for a blessing, or simply to stay where you are.
Children
Children are welcome at everything we do, and you do not need to keep them still or quiet. There is a play area at the back of church, a baby changing table in the vestry, and no one minds if you need to walk about. In term time the children go out partway through for their own group, and on the third Sunday of the month the whole service is shaped so that they can follow it.
If you need anything
If you would find step-free access, large print, a hearing loop or somewhere quiet to sit helpful, tell whoever welcomes you at the door and we will do what we can.
Afterwards
Stay for coffee if you would like to, or slip away if you would rather. No one will chase you. If you want to talk to someone, the Rector, The Rev'd Francesco Aresco, is usually at the door after the service, or you can write to him at rector@monkenhadley.church.
