In the name of our God, we will set up our banners.
The Standard Bearers are the small group who raise and lower the flag on the church tower.
We fly the St George's cross for the Church's own days: the principal feasts of the Christian year, our Patronal Festival, St George's Day and most saints' days. The Union Flag goes up for national occasions, among them the King's birthday and Battle of Britain Sunday. If you are crossing the Green and see a flag up, something is being marked.
It is not a difficult job, but it is a real one. It means coming early, climbing the tower, and returning at the end of the day to bring the flag down. In return you get one of the best views in London. We are high up on Barnet Hill, and on a clear day you can see as far as the Shard.
